I know that a 99+ head is different than a 98- head, and is better flowing. Could you partially create some of that better flow by using a 99+ intake/exhaust gasket instead of using the 98- gasket?

I think that you misunderstood me, the head to manifold fit of my engine is fine. I was curious if you a gasket for a newer than 99' 4.0 you could recreate a bit of the low pressure area that the heads with the smaller exhaust ports have.

(FWIW my 99 had the smaller exhaust ports in the head.)

The only way a gasket will do anything is if intrudes into the port area. If that does happen you are doing nothing but creating turbulent and a restriction.

Whats the casting number on the head? If its 0630 it has the larger exhaust ports.

Talyn is right, if you put the newer style gaskets, it will just create a restriction. Not only are the 00-01 4.0 cherokee exhaust ports smaller, but they are positioned higher than the 91-99 cherokee exhaust ports. The intake ports are also a bit different from the 91-99 heads.
