Its still up in the air about Dougs MJ.. but the fact that im asking questions is a good thing .. for doug that is.. lol

So..
1989 MJ with Auto on column..2wd.. long bed..

Donating its guts: AVON
1991 XJ Laredo 4x4

Taking engine, axles, driveshafts, xfercase, transmission out of XJ to MJ..

Has anyone done this? is it a direct bolt in type thing?

rear driveshaft and rear axle housing aren't gonna be bolt in, the rest should be.

(rear driveshaft length is way different and since the MJ one is longer it needs to be fatter too to avoid vibration/wobbling issues, rear axle housing is SUA instead of SOA and perches are spaced differently)

the 44 rear will need to be changed.. and ds lengthened ..
will the MJ computer match to the H.O. 4.0L from the XJ?>

the pink was too much for you buddy? you know it would be cheaper just to repaint it and alot less hassle :D
i still have 2.5 quarts of AVON Paint left.. im just saying....

As for electronics, nope... won't match. 89 is going to be RENIX and 91 is OBD-I.

You have two choices -
* put all the sensors and junk from the 89 drivetrain onto the 91 drivetrain, install, profit.
* put all the wiring and electronics from the 91 into the 89. This will require a lot of fun electrical work since the 91 stuff is XJ and the 89 is MJ. Depending on how far you take it you will be doing anything from a few hours of splicing to a few days of building a custom wiring harness.

You might have to do some stuff with the intake/exhaust manifolds as well but I am ignorant when it comes to that.

yeah..as i suspected...
sounds.... "nasty"

nope not really.... if we do this we'll use your complete motor and swap over the renix sensors.... it really only needs a tps and a map to run. then weld a tab onto the ho tb to adapt the renix tps and viola! (ie this is what im doing with the stroker... running an HO top end with renix comp and harness) as far as tcase linkage i "think" the tab off a 231c is indexed properly to get rid of all the body crossing linkage crap, might have to build a linkage rod (and your shift pattern will be backwards) but other than that all that good stuff will bolt in, might take a day or 2 but not that bad ;)

we ll see how smooth the stroker install goes.. before i make up my mind..
