'Impeach Obama' Sticker Lands Officer In Trouble
Officer To Be Disciplined

INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis police officer faces disciplinary action for using his police cruiser to make a political statement that many deemed offensive.

Officer James Quyle's cruiser was recently parked on Massachusetts Avenue when office workers spotted a bumper sticker they thought was highly inappropriate, 6News' Jack Rinehart reported.

"On the laptop was a really large yellow sticker in all capital letters in black that said, 'Impeach Obama,'" said Sarah Harrison.

The message offended several office workers, so much so that Harrison snapped pictures and sent them to the police department and a member of the City-County Council.

"Everyone kind of had the same response. It's like totally inappropriate," Harrison said. "Kind of a shock, really, that this officer was stating his politically views so blatantly on public property."

The officer, who works the downtown district, was ordered to remove the sticker from his vehicle.

"He's a good officer. He's been on about 16 years," said Indianapolis police Lt. Jeff Duhamell. "He just made a mistake and he'll be disciplined for it."

The department has strict guidelines about what officers can put on their cars. A Crime Stoppers bumper sticker is permitted, but a campaign statement is a violation.

"It was something that needed to be changed, and I'm also really impressed by the response I got from the entire community," Harrison said.

Officers are also prohibited from installing boom boxes, excessive window tinting or objects that dangle from the rear-view mirror.

My dad got in trouble by have a pink ribbon magnet on the back of his patrol car even though my mom is a survivor. ANY personal affects are not allowed.

This reminds me of a April Fools joke I played on a cop friend of mine last spring. I had a 2 bumper stickers made on magnets and stuck them to the back of his unit

One said; "I brake for Dunkin Donuts" (with the dunkin donuts logo!)

The other said; "Follow me to Krispy Kremes" (also with the KK logo!)

He drove around with it most of the day without noticing, at least until his Sargent was following him and noticed. He radioed my friend and asked him what the he** he had on the back of his unit! The whole PD got a good laugh out of it including his wife who is also a LEO in the same county.

I'm still waiting for the payback!

Man, back in the day(early 90's), I worked at a place where we always played jokes on each other. One day, they tied a naked Barbie doll to the grill of my car right in the center. I didn't notice it for a while. I probably looked a little weird or something out of Road Warrior.
But yeah, as much as I'm not an Obama fan, I can see it not really a good idea to have it on/in a patrol car.

The sticker wasn't even on the car! It was on the back of his laptop INSIDE the car!! People take life waaaay to seriously...
Still not his property.

So if a cop hangs a swastika band from his rearview mirror its ok but if its on the outside of his car thats wrong?

I think impeach stickers are a waste of space for either political party

hanging a swazi on the mirror and an "Impeach Obama" sticker are hardly the same.

sure it was in bad taste, but thats a bad comparison.

I didnt mean to say it was okay... i just meant that it's on the inside of the car, and the laptop may or may not be his property.

In poor taste for his job, yup. Against department policy? Most likely. I bet it was some wannabe cop/ex-MP/security guard that got all butt hurt while waiting for his "stimulus package" :-) that turned in the veteran officer.
