Ever heard of a 'boiler room' operation

Where 30+ -people work their shift and have to make several hundred calls during that shift. Where, in the old days, the telephone handset is TAPED to your hand and does not get UNTAPED till your shift is over. Head call, you unplug the handset and take it with you
I worked with a guy who did this for a mortgage company and some of the stories.
Just like junk mail, I would not buy anything that was sent to me as junk mail PERIOD, if I want it *I* will find it, it will not find me.

I hate telemarketers. They call at the worst times (anytime!) with bullshit. I do not want to hear it.... I do not care.

They are slime, pond scum.... the worst of the worst.
I signed up for the Do Not Call list.... I hope they do put it in place.

Do I care how many may lose their jobs? Not really. I have lost mine before, and have moved on. Ending or curtailing a crappy industry, and those that support them is a good thing IMHO.

I wonder how many that work in that industry, or support that industry spend time during "work" surfing the internet instead of working?

For me.... it is my phone.... my time. It should be my choice. Unfortunately, it is not.... those idiots in the industry can call me at will.... so I have no problem not caring about their jobs, or those in the industry, the less of them... the better.

I guess I'm unsympathetic because I've lost jobs before (some I've left, some have left me.) Frankly, I wouldn't really care if those callroom operations folded up and did something actually USEFUL for a change!

It's kinda like SPAM - I don't need pills to get it up, make it longer, and I have quite enough hair. I don't need Valium or Prozac w/out a scrip (but might want it if these fools don'e leave me be!) And, if there's something I want to buy, I can find it for myself without too much effort.

I liken the cold calls and SPAM to the people who just walk up to you and try to sell you something - you are invading my privacy and assume a certain amount of risk in so doing. I won't just haul off and knock you to the pavement as a first measure (only if you get REALLY pushy would I do that!) but expect to be harrassed in return. I consider the calls/mails/&c to be nothing more nor less than harrassment, and shall respond in kind and in quantity. The simple solution to not getting bothered by me for bothering me is to leave me alone in the first place!

Besides, is it REALLY worth it to pay long distance or sponsor a WATS line from Bangladesh just to try to sell me siding I don't want and won't buy? Considering all the call centre jobs moving offshore (along with all the rest!) I don't see how they can come out ahead - unless they get a better deal on long distance than I do...
