I guess all the auto manufacturers and parts stores in LA will have to revise their service manuals and parts catalogs to re-name those pesky brake and clutch components. Maybe we can host a national contest to come up with the "best" PC nomenclature for "primary and secondary hydraulic actuation cylinders."
 
last i checked those two terms were properly described in the dictionary just fine. crap like that pisses me off.

i have been working on computers for about 10 years and use those terms constantly and never ONCE have I though of the politically incorrect ideals when thinking about hard drives or CDROM drives.
 
Must be something genetic here. I know a guy named Sandoval and he's an idiot too. This sounds exactly like something he would come up with.
 
LMAO (not really, but) what about 'male' and 'female' plug connectors? wouldn't this lead to confusion, potential for identity crisis, mental trauma, and eventual breakdown of all society as we know it today?

Gawd whenever I read crap like that, I want to jump in the tub with a hairdryer. Aw crap, can't do that...it ( term 'hair' dryer) might offend those who are follicly challenged, and my estate get sued.

This extent of being PC is stupid, and ridiculous, and unbelievable, and downright scary. These people really think this stuff means something.

Do these people have any idea how many words we have in our language that have negative connotations? Are we going to have to eventually remove all negative terms from our vocabulary so some poor (idiot) sap is not offended? I can't believe that educated, intelligent people actually think this way.

No one has any backbone any more......the ability and willingness to say "that's just the way it is".
 
This is a case of taking stupidity to a whole new level. Some one some place should be given a pat on the back for finding something brand new to whine about. Of coarse if that happens that person will probably call the pat on the back assault. And also form a new group of people named Pat to complain about a pat on the back being called a pat. And they'll want that renamed and they'll want reperations paid to them because of all of the problems that this has caused them.

Nope, I'll stand where I'm at. This shit is getting way out of hand and for once I'm at a loss for words.

A lot of people call me a bigot because I believe in equal rights not rights that give an advantage to one group or another. The company I work for now has a policy that say's you can't be promoted over a certain level unless you are a woman or in a minority group. All in the name of equality and being politically correct. But I call that reverse descrimination. At the school where I earned my degree only 20% of the students were white heterosexual males. Doesn't that make me a minority? Not leagally.

Computer equipment got the names master and slave becaue that's exactly how they worked.

I don't here any bitching about a "Masters Degree".

Some people need more to do.

Gawd - what's wrong with people these days? I keep wondering if I'm going to get into trouble asking for a "spade" - which is NOT the same as a shovel! Or perhaps a pair of "dikes" when I need to snip a wire or two (I did get hauled into court for that one about 1994 or so... Sexual harrassment in the workplace.)

Anyone ever have to go to any of those asinine "sensitivity" courses? Two days of drivel, and I got run out of mine early for being "non-compliant." Sorry, but I just didn't have the week to waste not working on the job, and I'm surprised it took me two days!

Let's see - Master and Slave drives have been around as long as the IDE bus - isn't that 15-20 years or so? How about master and slave cylinders? I'm sure that's been in the lingo for a good 60 years in automotive, and longer in hydraulic actuation and fluid power.

All this goes in with my arguments against censorship - by constrolling language, you contol how people think; mainly by removing the symbols used to express the thought found to be "objectionable."

And, while we're at it, what is the standard used for "objectionable?" I don't object to anything said around me in general, and I am also able to understand that each profession has its own verbal shorthand created for greater efficiency on the job.

Besides, how much would you be willing to bet that the people doing all the bitching here aren't even involved in computers? Seems to me that most people I've run across in various aspects of IT, mechanics, or even fluid power don't have any trouble with the use of the relative terms "master" and "slave," and no-one else really needs to be involved, right?

Another interesting side note - I've always been more insulted by someone trying not to insult me than by someone who can look me in the face and say what he's thinking. Perhaps I was born in the wrong century?

in recent news.. the company Whipped Cream is being sued by the NFPWJWM (national foundation for people who just want money) for its reference to slave labor. The company is required to pay a $10000 to every person somehow ever related to anyone who has ever been whipped for any reason. In addition, all employees of Whipped Cream will be enslaved to the NFPWJWM and be subject to daily whippings for no shorter than 150 years. Every Whipped Cream container will be recalled and renamed "Rapidly Turned Cream". Anyone caught in possesion of a Whipped Creap container will be promptly severely beaten (unless of course, there ancestors in someway have been repressed in the past).

while eating my lunch something dawned on me, i was eating saltine crackers. HOW RACISTS!!!!

i think we (all us crackers) should sue companies that make snacks that contain 'crackers' in their name. here's a list of the ones i can think of off the top of my head.

saltine crackers (all brands)
cracker barrel
cracker jack
