How much power can a Centerforce clutch hold?

It will handle anything a stroker can throw at it.
BUT,(IMHO) I would choose a different clutch. I did not listen to the warnings about the Centerforce being a poor choice. Those lovely little weights love to stick in the 'deployed' position when the clutch warms up, making it nearly impossible to disengage the clutch. Mine lasted just months before it first happened.
Either turn the motor off to engage first gear(every other gear change became an experiment too :)) or let it cool for a few hours and all was well. :looney:
Go Luk.

I've been ballin the ish out out of my Centerforce for 3 years(2 for the 4.0, 1 for the 4.6). I'm sorry for those that got a bad one or didn't install it right, but that boy clamps way better than a stock replacement and can handle the additional power just fine.

My buddy has been through 3 in his mustang. He went through the break in period babying it every time. Then the first time he did a burnout it would build a bird's nest in his bellhousing

I have used a few of them as well of friends of mine. We have all had good luck with them. One of my buddies was putting 575 to the tires with his stang and didn't have any issues with them, car went 10.31@128. I used them in my conquest and my mustang with great luck. Only time one didn't work well was when a friend tried one in his diesel truck, there is no organic single disc clutch that will hold 1000ft lbs in a 8000lb truck so it didn't work and he ended up with about a $1200 clutch lol.

I'm planning on going all out on this stroker build, no real idea how much power it will make. Its looking like I should avoid this clutch kit and go with a stronger one.

Go with a Luk Pro Gold clutch kit. Luk was the OEM manufacturer of Jeep clutches, and the Pro Gold series has something like 20% greater clamping power.

On the other hand, My OEM clutch with 126k miles has been holding strong for my stroker for the past 30k miles.

I know the strokers look good on here. BUT its not like your dropping a twin turbo 500 inch hemi in your jeep. I know I have had a basic stroker in my jeep for 5 years now(its birthday is this month even :D. The CF dual friction will be fine, you can even add some nitrous to it if you really need to.

Don't give me any ideas, I just happen to have a NOS bottle in the shed.
:fuse:

no problems with the centerforce 2 clutch and pressure plate on my 89. if anything, its too "grabby" and doesnt allow any slipping.

I would use anything but cf (IMHO). I wasted one in a acura with about 160 hp. customer service is horrible they wouldn't even talk to me. Never again.

I've tried MANY different clutches in my LS1 vehicles and the only clutch I'll ever use again is a Spec clutch. They can take a beating and the customer service is top notch.

A lot of our customers use Spec clutch kits and they are happy with them. I found the CF for cheap and wanted to check.

Thanks for the input

My buddy was actually just telling me the other day that he will be getting a Spec clutch for his '00 ls1 soon. But he also mentioned that while they are good clutches they have been known to grenade and send shrapnel through the floor boards. He plans on getting a lead blanket to prevent personal damage.

Lead might be a little hardcore lol, a kevlar one would be fine. He would be better off to replace the bell housing.

Well he was saying the lead blanket was about $125 and a new bell housing was like $600 (I think, It was definately a lot more money).

The flywheel is the real issue if it blows up. The clutch can blow up and not cause much damage other than not working. I have had some friends blow clutches up and it just makes a mess of the pressure plate usually. But a flywheel coming apart can destroy a car.

About 10-15 years ago at Bud's Creek, a flywheel came off a racer's car(Vernon Harris, iirc), went through the bellhousing, through the floor, into the car and cut through his major leg artery. Unfortunately he bled to death, before anybody had a chance to get to him. Now they have a memorial race for him.
