Holy Generator shortage

Well with the storm approaching now my brother in law called late last nite and wanted a generator so he can keep his basement from flooding with the $10K he spent on french drains and pumps, not to mention the home theatre and finishing he had done down there. None to be had in NJ or PA at any price. So, early this morning I head out to the normal places you buy them, three Home Depots, CLEANED OUT for the past 3 days and none coming in. LOWES, Cleaned out and none coming in. Stopped at BJ's wholesale to pickup a new color cartridge for my HP printer and was checking the prices on BFG AT/KO in 31" for the YJ. Low and behold, 3 6,000w generators peeking out from behind a stack of tires, quick trip up front for a flatbed and some $$$ later I got one.
Wonder if I should have bought all three and parked in NJ with a sign up to make a tidy profit.
The 'guy who knows' at Home Depot said that Briggs and Stratton had no more, all their generators for the past two years have been shipping to afganistan, Iraq and other points in the mid east. He also mentioned that several people from LI showed up on sat and cleaned them out of the stock they had as well as the others in this area.
We for sure need a border checkpoint to keep those NY'ers out :D

I remember everyone laughing at me when I bought mine one bright sunny day. Ohh how many nights, pouring rain, power out, have I sat warm and cozy watching TV with my little buddy humming away in my driveway, LOCKED to the garage door frame.

Plan ahead.....

Good luck to you all on the coast, you are in our prayers.

I'd have thought there would be scads of them left over from the Y2k scare :D
Well... you will see them surface and show up in the stores about a week too late... some pencil pushers stashed them into deep storage and forgot about them :(

Garage sales

I've never been much of one for garage sales but I think in the next couple of months I'm going to spend a couple of hours on sats and suns looking around. Might be I could find a nice old HD generator, 12,000watts, that would suit in emergencies for the well pump and water heater from some snowbirds moving south permanently. Already have a dozen nice storm lanterns and picked up 2 gallons of oil today. We use them just for the mood they generate :D but they have come in handy a few times. Much better than candles.

Duck and cover! Isabell looks a little tame compared to Hugo! But any class two is dangerous!

This pic is about 5 hours old...good luck y'all...
