I just ordered the AEM FIC 6 with its patch extension AEM 30-2984 for a 2001 xj, To my surprise they shipped the FIC without the patch extension and said it has been dis-continued!!!:hang:

I thought the online retailer was messing up , I called AEM and they confirmed it has been discontinued although they have it on stock on their website. I spent a full day so far trying every online shop i could find that would stock the damn piece with no success.

zero stocks everywhere!!.

any ideas, i'll definitely not cut my factory harness to connect it!!,

appreciate some help

gradon , ultrarev is where i ordered mine as well, they said they didn't have it in stock as well and issued me a refund, its like it magically disappeared.

can i build a wiring harness using connector kits?, is there such a thing?

The 30-1913 F/IC is marketed for 03-05 srt4 Neons, but works for many 4-6 cylinder Chrysler vehicles. The 30-2984 is the harness that plugs into obd2/96-01 Cherokee PCMs. You buy this harness so that you can chop it up and wire in the FIC's harness, instead of chopping up your factory wiring. It isn't necessary, just nice, as with it, I can remove the FIC in a few seconds just by unplugging the 2984 and reconnecting the factory harness to the pcm. The FIC comes with a bypass plug, so that you can remove the FIC, but leave the wiring in the loop and all will work as stock(good for first starts after wiring/troubleshooting).

So, here is the real deal on the harness. I spoke, at length, with AEM yesterday and the problem is that the PCM connector is out of production. The harness connectors (black, white and grey) are still valid parts but without the large PCM end, no can build a harness. There is a seller on eBay (kdperformance) whose listing says "more than 10 available. So... If you want one, better grab it fast before they are gone forever. Linky to listing, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_W0Q...emZ170674549548QQsspagenameZSTRKQ3aMEWNXQ3aIT

I have posed the question to my Australian contact at Sprintex to see if they think they could justify getting a Malaysian company to tool up and build the required connector. Answer is... Nope, not enough volume to justify the expense. A minimum of 1,000 pieces would need to be ordered.

Hope this helps to sort out the issue.

thanks o gauge for taking the initiative and calling AEM.it just hit me now, can I build a patch harness out of used connectors,
I've got a local junk yard here with tons of salvage XJ's lying around.

I'm completely ignorant with electrical s so this might sound silly, what if I pull off the big black "male" connector off a salvage PCM and connect it somehow to a salvage harness end with the 3 black , grey, white plugs?

theoretically these two put together makes an extension harness

Basically the harness is a dummy pcm with the black, white, and grey female connectors coming out of it.

^^This is correct. If you were to cut a harness out of a wrecker and carefully unsoder the approximately 96 or so connections to the circuit board (it is a flex circuit) then you could make a patch. just connect pin one (and so on) of the PCM connector to pin one of the appropriate harness side.

BE AWARE !!! There are missing pins in each of the harness side connectors of this mess and yes, the pins missing are different on each of the white, grey or black connector. Be very careful or you may blow out the PCM.

Seems like many ebay sellers do that these days: have 10+ available on their auctions and then tell you days after they get your money that it was not in stock/mislabeled/error and then you wait while the mfg drop ships it to you. Ultrarev took 5 weeks to get me the FIC and then later told me they had it in stock the whole time under a different vehicle(after I complained a week later that they should remove the auction so other people wouldn't go through the same $#!+ I did).

OK, I had one ordered from the guy...

He refunded my money late yesterday and I see that the listing is now gone. Talyn, did you report the bad listing to eBay? This sort of thing must stop. I believe it is a violation of eBay rules to drop ship, you are required to have the item in hand prior to posting it for sale. At least that is true for Shmucks like me, not sure on what the rules are for store fronts.

On the other hand, Sprintex is considering to reconsider the initial "we don't think so" to my asking them to make them. The are looking to a Chinese cable maker for a quote. Turns out it is the same shop that AEM reportedly uses. Stay tuned for updates as I get them. What a cluster....

I did a massive Google Search and called EVERY SINGLE VENDOR that listed. Not only did they not have one, they were unaware that the part had been discontinued. Several of them had me set on hold whilst they called AEM to confirm the endo of production.

Note: Watch the telephone number on some of the web sites, there are at least 6 that I found that sell under different names/web addresses. Same telephone number though...

Same thing I have found. They say they can get and when asked to check the say they can't. No one found to have one in stock. I found another company on ebay that was selling them, but same scenario as the other one.
