Hey I'm goin to look at this 1996 XJ on Saturday and I'm kinda new to this. Here's the details I got from him

-4.0 with AW-4
-147k miles
-6.5" mostly Rusty's long arm lift
-rebuilt tranny 10k ago
-stock gears
-32x11.5 A/Ts with 50-60%
-all receipts and well maintained
-back driver's quarter panel got hit on something
-paint is starting to flake and stuff on the roof/hood
-no sye

He's askin $4000. I was hopin to get him down a little since I don't have that much. How much you think it's worth?

96, 147K, stock gears, no SYE and half worn tires. I say offer no more than $3000. If he doesn't bite, move on. Good luck.

That's a cute "Barney" Jeep decent price though, can probably bring it down a little more. Bet the eng. mount is toast, oil adapter leaking, as well as RMS.

Just wondering what you would have if you put three grand into it. I say it would be alot nicer the the OP's 1st choice.
 
Even after a grand you'd have the pugeout 5spd.

This would be a better jumping off point. Heck I'm even thining about this one...the out of state license makes me wary.

or even this one if you could spend $1K more

I saw the first one boatwrench and my eyes got big as a saucer. The wife noticed came over right away and put the cabosh on that dream right away. Damn Economy. About the second one: What kind of 4" lift allows you to barely fit 30" tires under it? I guess I'm just used to Rubicon lifts.

If anyone is intrested in buying this XJ I will gladly buy the roof rack off you. Name your price (within reason of course)
 
OK well I looked at it and the guy seems to have uh embellished a little. The front lift is basically a 6.5" short arm Rusty's w/o quick discos and the back is just 6 inch blocks on stock leafs. The rebuilt tranny was just a replaced rear main seal and all the receipts really weren't much. For not having an sye and stock gears, the vibes aren't bad and it's still got oomph at 65. And as for the body......it's a total mess. There's not a single panel that hasn't been dinged and/or scratched, including both rockers and the hood. I can live with it, but it's definitely not what was advertised

What do you guys think about what it's worth now?

that sounds like the worst deal you could ever possibly get.


please, for the sake of the rest of the cherokee owners, do not buy it
