Headlights question

DO NOT do HID's in a reflector housing. Not only is it highly illegal, but it's dangerous for other drivers on the road, especially oncoming traffic!

Silver Stars are alright. Their life expectancy is not long, 150 hours approx as compared to other upgraded lights of 250+ hours easy. Did I mention they are only 60/55w, which is stock specs?

The following are 3 choices (My personal preferences), they are all good choices. You do get what you pay for, but you will be happy with either choice.

Choice 1:
Hella Vision Plus H4 Conversion with Bulbs ($54.99 per side all inclusive):

Choice 2:
IPF H4 Headlight Housings withOUT Bulbs ($39.99 per side)

Choice 3:
Hella E-code (ECE - Non-DOT) H4 Headlight Housings withOUT Bulbs (39.99) - These are what I run:

As choices 2 and 3 are sold without bulbs, you now have a choice of what to use. This varies greatly! So here are your bulb choices:

Delta 60/55w H4 bulb ($6.99):

IPF Fat Boy II H4 bulb pair (79.99):

Osram Hyper White 70/65w OR 85/80w H4 bulb (Not DOT)($19.78):

Now, if you want even MORE power out of your headlights, whether they are completely stock, or higher wattage, you need an upgraded wiring harness with relays and a fuse. This bypasses that crappy 18 gauge or worse wiring, and upgrades it to 12 or 14 gauge with relays, and a fuse. This heavier gauge of wire allows more voltage to make it to the light, thus allowing the bulb to actually perform like the wattage says and increases the lumens output. I recommend this wiring harness from ARB for $99:

My current setup are the Hella E-codes, Upgraded Wiring Harness w/ fuses & relays, Osram H4 bulbs in 85/80 watt. I have this on BOTH my Jeep and my motorcycle, and soon to be on my Chrysler Conquest TSi as well.

I run IPF headlamps with the IPF fatboys with upgraded wiring/relays. But the KC.s slimlights help too as the cheap lights under my front wheel well. If I could improve my old eyesite since corrective lenses don't help much at night I would...night vision...$$$$$$$$$

Well, I have a buddy of mine who has a 85 Corolla GTS and the headlamps in that are Whitestars, and will fit my XJ perfect. The corolla has a hole in the block so he is just gonna give them to me, but I have to do the removal and install, take his out and put my old ones in. So I am getting some free Whitestars

Well tried to get the headlights out of the toyota, but since the battery was dead the lights would not flip up and I am not about to man handle those things up. I wish there was a release I could trigger to flip them up .

There should be a release....well, at least my Porsce 924 and 944's had them....so that you can manually raise the lights if the motors malfunction.

At the very least, hook up jumper cables from your XJ to the 'Yota for enough power to flip them up?

Yeah, well I will search for a release first. No money to spend that way, even though I need a set of jumpers just to be safe. I need to setup a emergency box so that I have all I need in case of trouble.

I think he was wrong about the name of the lights too, I have never heard of Whitestar lights, only Silverstars.

How do I find out if there is a release or not, I searched the net, but came up with nothing.

I'd recommend the Autopals. Super cheap, great cutoff.

Since they are basically H4 conversions, I've got a H4 HID system on order. Hopefully the cutoff stays excellent or I'll have to get rid of them.

got my answer on the headlight removal problem out of the 85 Toyota. Those headlights are free Silverstars
