head removel help

anyone know what all needs to be taken off to remove the head from a 96 high output xj?

Just anything that makes contact with the head. Also make sure you don't mix up the head bolts. If I remember correctly, there is a bolt that can only go one way do to the valve cover mounting or ground wire positioning.

Depends. Some unbolt the manifolds, some pull the manifolds with the heads. Depending on how you decide to do it.

Well, if you have an engine lift (or rent one) it is easier to pull and reinstall the head with the manifolds already bolted up and torqued.

What Joe said. If I remember right, the rear driver's side head bolt can be a pain too- lift it up until it's clear of the block, but still below the firewall seam, then rubber-band it to a rocker arm or something to hold it at that position.
