Just need to find out if a 1987 MJ with a 4cyl has an AW4 as a tranny? Also, if it does would it work with my 4.0 if I swap the bellhousing? I know the AW4 has a removeable bellhousing.
Have I got an AW4. 1987 MJ 4cyl. 4x4

No. The 4-banger uses one of the small Chrysler trannies -- 904 or 909 or something like that. And the 4-cyl bell housing bolt pattern is different from the 4.0L so nothing from a 4.0L will bolt onto a 4-cyl block without adapters.
