Has anyone built a 2wd jeep like a sand rail?

I was out at the beach today cruising the dunes in 2wd railing the berms like the buggies do and I got to thinkin, how awesome would it be to have a 2wd xj with the skinny buggy tires up front with the razor center and getting some low profile 30" paddles for the rear. I already have a 4" lift and plenty of travel, I was just thinking about making a jeep rail :)

Might want to re-think the skinny/front tires and go with something that gives a little better flotation. A sand rail has the engine in the rear, and almost no weight on the front end. The front tires act more like rudders then tires.
On the XJ, with the heavy metal up front, you might want to consider paddles on all 4 corners.(And really big mud flaps in front to keep the rooster-tails off the windshield. :D )

'Be pretty cool, if you had the XJ set up for go-fast,.. show up at the dunes or beach, Unload and swap paddles for ATs, then go blasting around the sand.

"You will need the extra HP....."
Sand creates massive rolling resistance, adding paddles without adding power will feel like you're dragging a pinto behind you.......stroker, v-8 swap, turbo.....then paddles.

How bout an XJ body built around a light tube frame with a big mid engine right behind the seats.

Ahh if only I had won the powerball. All the useless crap I could build.

I have a friend with a lifted TJ and stock motor and he runs paddles on it in the dunes, works well. You do need floatation tires in the front like has been mentioned because of all the weight up front. My old XJ with a nice stroker worked very well in the dunes in 2wd with 37" MT/R's. The 37's had plenty of floatation and the stroker pulled them well in 2wd hi range, it climbed pretty well. Would have been fun to try it with some paddles. I ran it stripped down in the dunes, no tools, boxes, or spare tire.

Engine moved back on a tube frame with an XJ body would be real fun, drive from the back seat. :D

Hmmm...a mid-engine Cherokee...

I also seem to recall something about not having a full tank. :gee:

Oh, you remember that? I had forgotten. :D

Nothing like running out of gas and stalling while shooting a bowl.
