Is anyone using an IPAQ for their GPS setup? What do you have and how do you like it?
I picked up a dirt cheap basic ipaq (rz1715) and it's primary use will be to store pdf'ed fsm and tech docs. I'm also thinking about using it as my GPS setup for the jeep, but I'm trying to decide which one to get and how well do they work.

Well, I use a Dell X5, the older unit, with a Megellan GPS unit hooked to it by cable. Its a kludge setup, but works great. When I have the money Id like to get one of the Compact Flash (CF) GPS units that are for sale on ebay, to eliminate the clutter.

Ive used the setup with Mapopolis (http://mapopolis.com) and for directions and stuff, its TOTALLY AWESOME! Mapopolis is only like $100 or $149, its BETTER than TomTom units selling for $800 IMHO.

As far as for trails and stuff, dohno what to tell you exactly, Ive not used it for such as of yet.

There are programs out there, many for free, that will allow you to import a scanned map and use it with the GPS unit!

Heres a good site to get you started....

And try this google search too!

Good luck,
