Got my laptop back

Seems to be running better. I do not have any anti-virus at the moment. Should I be looking at anything else besides Norton. Do I need anything else to be safe? Thanks.

Also...where's the best to go for downloads? I'm seeing Norton Security for 70 bones.

I use Zone Alarm, the free version. It's a firewall.

Virus protection has more to do with the user than anything.... Don't click those attachments from people you have never heard of!!

That's BS, Virii spread in many more ways than email attachments.

infected files on webservers
AVG is the best bet.
DOn't put norton on your machine. Youre hard drive will thank me for this advice

I've run it for over a year now and have had no problems. Zone Alarm Pro is a very good option for protection, but if you do any sort of gaming you will immediately hate it.

On my windows partition I run AVG by grisoft, as mentioned above. I like it.


Know what the best AV program is? Linux.

I am trying to download the AVG 7.1 right now and it is pissing me off. I went to the "downloads" section and found it. When I download it and it starts to run, it occupies the entire screen. Then a window pops up that asks for my name and then some kind of code. The number comes on the package (which I don't have or via email). Problem is...I can't get to any other windows when I'm asked for the number. I end up having to exit out and then delete the entire AVG from the PC. I hate this kind of stuff.

The strange thing is that at no point have I paid for anything during this process yet. I'm obviously doing something wrong. I guess I'll just have to run down the hill tomorrow and buy something from Circuit City.

http://free.grisoft.com just keep running update untill there are no more. The verison I loaded last nite took two.
If you want to buy the full version go thru my website www.rjpsystems.com, links on the bottom, curious to see if it works right.
As for spyware www.downloads.com search for 'spybot search and destroy' and belive it or not microsofts firewall seems to work pretty well.
Now that you have it back also run the microsoft updates thru, most competent computer repair places don't let a repaired computer out the door unless it has been updated to the current patches and such, if they only imaged yours from the master it may not have any patches or security fixes at all.

It's the third time it's been back. They managed to replace the keys correctly. Still didn't fix the monitor the right way. Seems to be running smoothly right now...which is kind of why I want some kind of AV.

They had it for about 2 weeks but told me that the repair would take 3-4 days. I called them on Friday and the guy couldn't come up with anything on either of the work order numbers. I gave him the serial # and he said, "Ummmmmmm...I think that's being shipped today." It was great. I said, "You don't have a clue where it's at do you?" I called again on Monday and bitched and they said it was going to ship Monday and would arrive Tuesday. Gateway would NOT over night this on their dollar....unless they had made a mistake.
