Rear axle drama. Looks like Parking Brake stuck, Axle bearing seized, broken shaft and stuck on the side of the road.

If anyone is going through there or neer by, please call RedHeep (Josh) at 301-325-2739 ASAP. Weather does not seem favorable either.

Calls are going out.......

Contacted Mingo (Tracy) and he's looking to contact IntrepidXJ (Randy Langstraat) and possibly Bob (Logdog) since they are a bit closer to Gypsum than any of us Denver Metro guys are.

From what I understand, Josh has a truck/trailer for his rig so hopefully they can at least get it off the highway and somewhere to work on it.

I'll post up on CO4x4 to see if we have any friends closer to Gypsum to help out.

If anyone knows specifically what went bad on the raffle jeep, please post up so we can get parts sourced.

What kind of axle? I have a D35 just sitting here you guys could have. I also a used 4.10 r/p set that could go in it if the larger carrier was sourced.

They're gonna need D60 axle parts. To swap in a different axle wouldn't be real easy without a proper length drive shaft that's sye compatible, u-bolts and what not to go with it.

Planefixer seemed to think it may possibly just be locked up brakes on one side...... I'll post up when I get better details.

Ok, just called Josh:

Parts needed: D60 pass. side axle shaft, 29 inches from WMS to end of splines with 5 on 5.5 lug pattern - and outter bearing/race. Disc brake rotor (chevy) to match that lug pattern.

Josh said the XJ is parked on the highway and they're at a restaurant in the area. They have a 34' trailer with 2 rigs on it and said they can off load one to pick up the XJ but are looking for a place to be able to work on it before they go and move it. He also has AAA with 100 mile tow benefit.

So, it seems that what they need most urgently is a place, then parts.

Josh is going back down to the XJ to get the spline count and measure the damaged rotor for offset.

Great info - I'll pass it on to Josh when he calls back.

I imagine either way - they're gonna be in Colorado thru Monday so they can call Currie in the morning.

Looks like the parking brake was naughty :(

35 Spline shaft, 2.5" brake offset. Thats a Currie 11" rotor. I'm not sure what OEM part they source, if any.

Rotor is a STANDARD Ford Explorer rotor drilled 5 x 5.5"

It is a 35 spline shaft intended for disc brakes by Alloy USA.

Wow....... serious carnage.

Josh just called again, they're gonna off load his XJ and go remove the Raffle XJ from the highway before it gets too dark. At this point, they just need a place to go.

I offered up my place if they think they can get it down this far.

Avery - pass this on to Josh:

From "Steve" a moderator/member over on Colorado4x4.org:

"If they want to come back to Grand Junction they can have half my garage - along with all my tools and help. Call my cell at 970-260-3848 if they want to do that. I don't have any parts for that axle..."

Which Avery means to say it just has long studs...........;)

Well........actually there is another difference (probably flange offset). I know that it was more than studs since Cal couldn't use the first set he got and had to give them to me :D
