I'm looking for gears, front and rear, for my Cherokee. It's a Dana 35 in the rear and model 30 in front. I'm looking for gears 4.10 or lower. Willing to buy complete axle with gears if necessary. I'm trying to get ready for the Rubicon trail in August so any help/suggestions would be great.

Start checking some boneyards, look for 4 cylinder XJ's, MJ's and TJ's, they came stock with 4:10's. YOu can also look for an 8.25 chrysler rear, bit stronger than the 35 or D44's. For the front D30 if you gut one take the carrier as well, the carriers for the numerically smaller gears 3:07, 3.53, 3.73's won't hold 4:10's.

I was going to do the same thing.......and then i got some great advice, dont waste your money on the d35 upgrade to the d44 from a local junkyard or ebay had a rear one in the Georgia area.

If 4.10 gears are low enough...assuming no bigger than 33" tires...then the easiest solution is a Cherokee D30 with 4.10 gears (4 cyl) plus an Explorer 8.8 with 4.10 gears.

I think a better solution is a Toyota 8" rear with factory 4.56 gears, and then just regear your D30 to 4.56. The Toyota 8" has 1" better clearance and is as strong as an 8.8.

Good luck.
