Fuel Pump Removal

Help. Need to change my fuel pump on my 1990 comanche. The manual says tap the locking ring loose to pull pump however tapping on the locking ring taps just flattens the taps. How do I get the fuel pump out???

The ring doesn't exactly spin in a perfect circle. Tapping one side of it will push it out of alignment, so you have to tap a little on one side - then a little bit on the other.

You only have to spin it about 1/4 turn to take it off.

Sorry about the bent tabs. No easy way around that.
