Front locker for fulltime xj?

I have a 2000 xj 4.5"lift w/ fulltime transfer case. What kind of locker should I use in front so I can still use my fulltime when it rains and stuff on the street? ARB? OX? anyone done this?:skull2:

You know what I just realized the other day? I had never thought about it real hard and i just realized that a front locker doesnt matter unless youre in 4WD. :twak: Thats what I get for being a poor high school kid who cant wheel for a while.:anon: :dunce:

Now correct me if I'm wrong (which has happened before...once or twice...) but on an older XJ (I believe pre-91) the front axle is disconected entirely when not in 4wd - so as long as you don't have a spool you're fine. On a newer XJ, the front axle is turning, but is not receiving any power when in 2wd, so an "automatic locker" like an Aussie that locks only when it senses torque being applied to it, would work - but this type would not work with a full-time 4wd system because it would try to lock whenever you applied the gas because it is receiving torque.

So if all that is true, then you're only choice for your jeep would be a selectable or a limited-slip (Just like CheapXJ already said)...

I say this all as more a question than an answer, because I have no personal experience with it, but have only read about it... Is that right? Could a part-time 4x4 XJ get away with an Aussie in the front?

The only right way to do it is to use a selectable locker...ARB, Ox, or Electrac....just like you said.

As far as pros and cons and personal experiences with each, I don't run one. Many, many do, so there are no problems with doing it, just a matter of personal preference on which one to use.

Yeah no problems with an automatic locker in part time although the racheting kinda gets on my nerves when driving twisty roads. I have a 242 and an Aussie in the front so I no longer use Full Time.

I had a Truetrac in my D 30 for a while. It worked well with the 242 especially on snow and ice. Off road it wasn't ideal, but with a little practice and occasional pressure on the brake it worked all right off road as well.
