First I would like to say Hi to everyone, I am new to this forum and have been in the background trying to learn more about my XJ.

My current problem is I have a squeal coming from the front-end, as I slow down the squeal also slows down. When put into nuetral and the motor shut down while costing I still get the squeal.

Any help would be appreciated.

By the way; 1999 Sport 4.0 Auto, 5 RE, 31 BFG AT with only 35k miles

Since this does it in 'N' or with the motor shut off (I wouldn't recommend doing that in case you lock the column) I'm thinking the centering pin assembly on the front driveshaft is likely dry and needs a rebuild. NAPA should have a centering kit for it; this is a good time to take a look at the qty=3 u-joints in the shaft and replace as needed.

That's what I was thinking too. Pull the front driveshaft and run it again. If the noise goes away, your problem is in the DS.

Another thing that could cause a squeal is something rubbing on a brake rotor. At only 35K miles, are you still running on the original brake pads? Since the noise is speed sensitive, you could try to raise the front end and manually turn one wheel at a time to see if you can hear which side it's coming from.

Dirt/sand/rocks/etc. that you pick up while wheeling can get into the most annoying places and cause various unwanted sounds.

The suggestion of taking off the front drive shaft to isolate the noise is a good one too.
