Front diff vent tube damaged...

Where the tube is connected to the diff housing, it is damaged. It almost looks like the tube got snagged on something, pulled off the pumpkin, and then sat on it and melted.

My question is whether or not the tube connects to the diff via a fitting of some sort? OR can I trim off the damaged section of tube (like 1/2") and stuff it back into the diff. housing?

Anyone have any close up images of theirs so I can see what it supposed to look like? I've only been an XJ owner for 3 weeks so I'm not familiar.

Thanks!

You didn't say what year, but on my 89 there's just a two-sided plastic tube that pops into the diif on one side and the hose (5/16) on the other.

Ah yes, you are correct... And thanks for the info...

My XJ is a 99.

It's just hard to tell what used to be on the end of the hose due to the apparent melting.

I'll crawl under there again and get a better look at the hole in the diff housing to see if I can gain any clues.
