front bumper mounting....

sidriptide

nobody of any consequence
i.'m looking for an aftermarket front bumper for my '87 XJ and some or the ones i see listed say "84 - 01" others say "84 - 96" how different are the mounts between the "old style" and "new style" my understanding is they are not the same... im about to go out to the driveway tommorow and rip off the bumpers from both XJ's and settle this... but i figured asking might save me some smashed knuckles.... thanks again!!

The mounts are probably the same. The bodys changed in 97 and so did the bumper configuration.

uh... so will the same bumper mount to both trucks or not? or sometimes? someone must know for sure... thanks wayne...

An example is the ARB front bumper, they have a break point at 97+, the only difference is that the 97+ model curves more around the ends where the 97+ end caps are. Most buy the pre 97 arb bumpers to get more tire clearance for larger tires, saves having to trim the bumper :) . As far I know the mounting bolts are all the same.
