so i finally decided to start making my bumpers for my jeep. i'm using some 3/16" to try and keep the weight down.

here's what i'm working with

so far the bumper weighs less then a 100 lbs. i have a couple other pieces to cut and some bracing to put in along with a couple d ring to make out of 3/4" but it looks like i'm gonna make my goal of the completed bumper weighing in at less then 150 lbs. now i gotta decide if i'm gonna paint it or powder coat it

I like. There's a hole in the middle of where my winch mounts. You might want to make yours bigger, or put more in there. The water drains, but it's pretty slow.

thanks for the idea i hadn't thought of that. so far this is just a mock up. everything is only tacked together to make sure it fits right. once it's done i'll take it completely apart and use a flap disc to clean all the rust off before welding and primering

Looks good so far, but I would taper the ends of it up more to make it looks sleeker (is that a word?). Also I wouldn't make the winch tray any deeper than absolutely necessary. You want to keep as good of an approach angle as you can. Looks like a great bumper build though.

and.....

neat!

is 3/16" the thinnest anyone should go or can you go thinner?

Yes, you should never go thinner than that.

if you can clean it all up without takein the whole thing apart i would if i was you. sometimes youll find things dont like to line back up the way you had them the first time. once its all tacked together leave it if you can.
