From out of town, need XJ help!!!

Hey guys and gals, I'm hoping someone in here might be able to help me. I live in Arkansas, just outside of Memphis, TN, but I travel alot for work. Right now my XJ is sitting in Baton Rouge, LA without any rear shocks... If you are familiar with the area, I was on Seagen lane, crossing over airline and had a green light. Crossed at about 35 MPH, and almost went airborn. Good grief they need to get that intersection fixed!!! Anyways, I ended up ripping both of my rear shocks out from underneath the jeep where they mount up at the top. Twisted the bar pins, and broke a bolt off on either side. It's gonna be too dangerous to drive it the 400 miles back home to fix it, so I need to do something here around Baton Rouge. I took it around to a bunch of shops, and noone was willing to weld a bracket onto the body to bolt my shocks to so I can get back home(said the body was too thin to weld to)...:looser: I've been trying to figure out how to patch it up, and this is what I've come up with. I was thinking of getting some 1" angle 1/4" thick and have it welded inside the frame from rail to rail(I know I don't have a frame). Get the correct angle on the shocks, and bolt them to the angle. Do you guys think this could work, and do you have any idea where I could get some angle from and then get the welding and drilling done? Thanks in advance for all your help!!!

can you get to Hot Springs AR. I drove mine 6 mo. with out shocks

You might want to go a little bigger than 1" like 1 1/2" so you have more surface to drill your mounting holes, but for a quick fix it should work just try not to jump it again. I drove around for a week or so before I have my BPE welded in and it was just extra bouncy.

You can make it back IF you keep it cool on the interstate. Just remember it will be a bit bouncy and it will sway.

Hey Aaronh, this is the guy that bought your bumper and sliders from ya. Howdy...lol I was going to try and drive it home, but I talked to a guy in my local jeep club that went out to Moab earlier this year, and had a similar problem. Broke both of his rear shocks about 2 hours from the motel. He said on the ride back it wasn't too bad until he got onto the interstate. When he would hit a bump going full speed like that his back tires would try to leave the ground it was hopping so bad. This was a wrangler too though, so maybe the cherokee would be better since it's a little longer. Someone else suggested getting some ratchet straps and strapping down the rear axle to the bottom of the jeep somewhere and snug it up. Said that would stop it from bouncing as bad... I dunno. I've got to get it fixed, and would rather wait until I get home so I don't get raped in baton rouge if you know what I'm saying... Thanks for all the advice, keep it coming!!!

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I actually found a local baton rouge 4x4 club (www.la4x4.com) and posted up I was looking for a local welding shop to fix my jeep so I could get back home. I've had multiple responses from people offering to repair it and make parts donations. I have to say I'm proud to be a jeeper right now!!!
