Fourth of July run

Up to the Gold Lakes area. The town of Graeagle has a great fireworks show on Saturday the 3rd. The trail was mild enough for a stock YJ and my stock MJ, and there was another more challenging route that Billy and JP took.

I'm considering leaving right from work on Friday afternoon, hitting the trail Saturday morning, then leaving Sunday. Mapquest says it's about 2.5 hours for me to get up there from Sac.

Take Hwy 49 north through Downieville to the town of Bassetts, turn left into the Gold Lakes area, take the FIRST Gold Lake turn to the left and follow it down to the bottom of the hill (about 1/4 mile). I'm not sure if I want to go to the OHV campsite or not.

Interested?

Billy took pics, but I think he may have been too busy taking them of his girlfriend to take any of the trail.

Edit: Billy says it was "fun" so I don't know if you'll need to use your ARB, but it should be a good time if you make it.

Gawd that ride was annoying! You won't need your ARB, but it was a decent little trail. There was one hill that we didn't try at all because some TJ guys couldn't make it locked front and rear w/ 33s :looser:

Fireworks show alone was worth it. It amazed me how many people came out of the hills for their little festival. The town of Graeagle raises $$$ all year just for this event.

The trail was a good time. Great scenery and a challenge or two also. Its the only time I've done some snow wheelin in July!

Not gonna make it this year though. We are off to the Ashland Shakespeare festival to get a little culture.

BUMP.

I'm supposed to get my 44 swapped in on Saturday morning, and hopefully my 30 sometime soon too. I'm ready to get out of town, who else is in?

I don't know if I can make the run. But I do know that there are quite a few good trails in the area according to my 150 Nor Cal trail book. Maybe you guys could try a few of them. I'll take a look at my book tonight and try to give you guys some directions/details on the local trails. I'm trying to get a Rubicon trip going for that weekend and finish the entire trail this time, I only made it through a little past Buck Island Lake and back out through Loon Lake last weekend.

Hopefully nobody was planning on going with me, because this isn't going to happen for me. Just two small issues left to go, but they'll keep me from wheeling until they're fixed.

Are you at going to come on the Swamp Lake run mid July? It looks like we will have a good group. What are you working on on your xj? Are you putting in the axles soon?

I've got other stuff to do the weekend of the Swamp run.

Axles are in, now I just need to make the shocks and driveshafts work right. They're all too long. The hardest part is going to be getting the drivelines cut down, I think I'll need to borrow another car for a while.

Cutting down a driveshaft shouldn't take more than half a day.
