found a few MJs for sale locally.. western Ma

sidriptide

nobody of any consequence
i saw a red MJ off the highway with a sign on it so i got off the next exit and checked it out. here's what i found.. (i'm not going to buy them but if you are interested it is in western Ma and i can give you some info)

8? MJ, red, shortbed, 2WD, 2.5L, automatic, D35 rear, cant remember odometer reading, rockers and drivers footwell were pretty rough, inner-bed floor was pretty rust free... aluminum whels in decent shape, rear slider, wooden 4"x4" rear bumper.. sign said "$500 OBO"

the other one:

87 MJ, shortbed, blue, 2WD, 4.0L, automatic, body and floors were in pretty good shape, rear slider, DANA 44 rear axle (gearing unknown), odometer 157,000, sign said new "used" engine at 153,000, also said "trany slips" initial sign said "$2500" then crossed out to "$2000" then crossed out and says "BEST OFFER"
decent body, decent 4.0L, and D44 should be worth $500 (to me at least if i needed a 3rd rig)

i didnt see anyone there, and there was no phone# on the signs..

these are located about 30 mins north of springfield on I-91.....

Hmmm, I'm thinking 'trailer', wonder how much they want for a bed....

now i just remembered the red one is a 4-spd... doors were locked so i couldnt check the year.. pre-87 is my guess...
There was only one year pre-87. The MJ came out in 86, and there was no 86 shortbed.

well it didnt strike me as a long-bed.. but i only eye-balled it for a few minutes because i was in a hurry.. hell maybe they were both long-beds, they werent next to each other so there was no real comparison.. you're the expert here..

Rich, I have a trailer I built out of a '88 longbed that I'd be willing to sell, comes with a bedliner and a matching cap. Has a pintle hitch, and I can fab up a new rear bumper. Available with your choice of 235/75 or 31x10.5 tires on stock steel rims.

Got any pics ? I always liked the trailers that rubicon made for the TJ's that used the back half of a TJ tub. Was planning on finding a 1/4 ton trailer but man the people who have them around here want a fortune for them. I just want something to use for vacations and trips to the lumber store that has big tires, not those things they sell at home depot...

I'll get some pics... I built it a few years ago for a Pine Barrens cleanup and only used it a couple of times since for hauling mulch. Its cool because its the same color as my longbed MJ, but I have a tandem axle flatbed and a Suburban now so I don't need it for hauling or camping and it just sits in the back of my yard hidden among the trees.

I built the A-frame tongue out of 2x6x1/8 wall tubing, slid it inside the MJ frame (cut off behind the cab) and through-bolted it. It has a heavy duty Bulldog tongue jack, and I can add a nice piece of diamond plate to dress it up too.
