Ford 9"?

I know that.....

Four Wheeler ran 36 TSL's and broke a mini-spool but other than that they seem fairly bullitproof......

Now to research the shaving thing!

I'm getting my 9" next week. I wanted something that matched my front 44 with the 5x5.5 pattern. The only real options are:

1. EB 9" (58" width, 28 spline)
2. Late 70's Ford 9" (65" width, 31 spline)
3. Scout44 (60" width)

I opted for the late 70's ford with 31 spline. The one that I am getting measures 64 3/8".....I'm not sure what that is all about....but I haven't seen the axle in person yet.

I don't know that I want to be that wide, but if it is 64".....then I will only be 2" wider than this photo. I may have to run a spacer for the front...not sure yet as I can't remember the width (maybe 62 1/2").

As far as shaving, my friend has a 9" in his XJ (the guy with the black XJ on 37s...exocage...pics have been floating around here)....he shaved his and ended up with almost an inch better clearance than a dana35.

I'll be working on mine soon....so we'll see.

I got mine bolted up last night. It's from a '77 EB and came with 31-spline axles, a detroit, and disc brakes for $900. The guy was swapping in a Currie unit. It only cost $100 to have the spring perches and shock mounts welded (waiting on the shock mounts till its installed). A few small adjustments to the brakelines and I'm set.

I think most 9" can easily have disc brakes from a lincoln or cadillac swapped in if they don't already have them. I think that pushes the width to 59" or so to. I can measure it tonight.

Here's a great post for identifying big or small bearing EB axles.
