we have an 84-96 era gas tank skid on our 2000 xj. Just modified it a bit back by the rear bumper. Been on there for quite a few years now with no problems.

I had a 97+ skid on my 96, had to widen it about half an inch to clear the seams.

same here, early skid on my 99. Just had to cut 2 or 3 inches off at the rear.
