For everyone that gave me crap for not wanting to drive my jeep on icy roads...

This is what can happen. 4wd helps us go but it doesn't help us stop. This is sort of a reminder for everyone that wishes to drive on frozen roads to be very careful.

If the road looks wet and you don't here the water spray, it's probably black ice.

its the nut behind the wheel that makes it work.... sure i can go out when its snowing and icing but does that mean i drive like its an f-1 race? no, stay smart, slow speeds, long stopping distances and gradual braking will get you where you need to go and the only thing you will have to worry about is the 5 thousand other idiots slinging around out there

there's a time and a place for everything-- I tend to stay off the roads for the first three or four hours when it snows. Most of the non-driving schmucks that just "have to rent that movie" during a storm tend to rush out and either remove themselves from the equation or scare themselves enough to stay home after their first trip. From there, the roads are usually free of idiocy and I can get where I need to go without trusting my life to the stupidity of others any more than necessary.

I giggle a little inside every time I see/hear someone say "hey, it started snowing-- lets go for a drive" 'cuz around here, they've probably never encountered a frozen patch on an otherwise wet road. Fortunately, dumb luck keeps most of them alive.

I was terrified when i 1st moved up here and it started snowing..
Then i drove the Rubicon in the snow a couple times and it holds the road good..
Black ice.. no matter where its at.. no good.
As for giving you crap? I think every one will still keep doing it. Its too much fun to stop!

This is true, however if one is not comfortable driving on icy roads, no need in taking a chance. Better to stay at home.

Personally, with the way our winters are, I've become quite good at driving on solid ice. Like you said long stopping distances and slow speed is the key.

This is why I daily a 27 year old Audi quattro with switchable diff locks, and a stack of rally, snow, studded, and rain tires helps too.

try a 6k lb 1 wheel drive truck...sure i got sideways on the highway a few times...but coming from the north...eh, you get used to it.

as for driving on ice...rule is, whoever is moving faster has the right of way...because they have no chance of stopping...

Im a firefighter and we've ran call after call this winter from people being careless on icy roads.

Its like they forget how to drive when theres white stuff coming out of the sky! ? haha

Ive still got my Jeeps tires aired down to like 15 PSI and that helps a little but Ive slipped and slided a few times trying to get to the wrecks. I havent even came close to losing it and can travel faster than a lot of cars. I love my XJ lol. The guys at my station know that if another winter storm like '93 hits to call me haha.

Glad that feller is ok and yall stay safe! Hopfully tomorrow is our last shot of winter. 60s this weekend!!

Wow, Blake, thats kinda weird! We had 3 inches on the ground when I left the house to come to school, and it was still falling!
