Fixing a GM 14bolt spindle?

How hard is it to fix the spindle? I have a 14 bolt that I am going to do a shave on. Inside one of the tubes looked like a simple piece of metal that was "lodged" in, thats what I thought. Turns out some jerk freakin welded the chunk in the spindle. I have tried punching at it with a 1.5" solid steel rod and a sledgehammer with no result so far.

Can I have the spindle replaced?

Yes it is possible to replace the spindles. However the tricky part is getting them lined up with one another.
If you're planning on having to pay someone to do it, it might be cheaper to find a new 14b... then you'll have spare parts.

ok, I have never run into this kind of thing before. I was looking at the hub conversion kit from geartech and thier kit comes with new spindles. I didnt know how complex it was going to be.
I think I will just get a new 14b.

Personally I would look for another 14 bolt. They are cheap enough that buying another would most likely be cheaper than fixing the current one, and the possible problems you might encounter down the road. If you were closer to Texarkana, I know of about a dozen 14 bolts that can be had for less than $150.00.

Yeah I was just trying to see the wieghts of new 14 or get it fixed. I called Fort Worth gear and axle about my problem, thier fix was for $1000. So I will be getting a new axle for sure.

Definitly get a new one. Trying to get the 5 lug conversion for the anchor? Too spendy for me, if you are going big, might as well find some DRW hubs and stick to 8 lug. My .02.

You know, if I dont find a good replacement this weekend at the pick and pull sale in fort worth, I wouldnt mind getting out for a drive that way.
I could also make a pass at the Army recycle depot and see if I can find a new air compressor or a welding kit.
