Fender swap

Both my front fenders on my 91' are crunched and I am looking at 2 options for replacement; swap a 97+ front clip or go with Rusty's 6" fiberglass 'baja' fenders. I have a few question I was hoping someone could help me out with.

- Is anyone running the rustys fenders and if so how is the fit and do yo have any pics?

- Does anyone else offer similar glass fenders/frontend?

- For the 97+ swap, I have found both fenders and the header panel here:

http://www.jeepautobodypartstore.com/cgi-bin/auto-body-parts/JPCHEROKEE4.html

I can get the header and both fenders for around 500$ but I haven't heard of this online store before and they seem kind fly-by-night. Has anyone ordered from them or does anyone have another place I can get the header panel from?

Quadratec has the fenders but not the header panel.

Try your local salvage yard......might find an XJ that took a hit in the rear that still has good front end parts.

Thanks, I have done that but I live in NorCal and the junk yards around either are pay-to-get-in/nothing newer then 91/all cars picked clean to the bone or even worst 'specialty junkyard' who think they should get $1200 for a 98 front clip USED. Those people charge more then jeep would for part alot of the time

I hear ya there, brother:mad:

Give www.jwjeep.com a try. They have a ton of xj's there and have helped me out in the past. They're in the sacramento area.

I would avoid the aftermarket flares. I've seen them on a couple of XJ's here, and I was not impressed. They don't blend with the original body lines well.

I did the 97 upgrade several times on different XJ's as well as a Comanche, and am very pleased with it. You'll need the fenders as well as the header panel if you want all the lines to match.

I did my first one with the header panel only, and just drilled and added filler to the top wedges of the old styled fenders. Turned out great. For the other two, it was just easier to order new fenders.

Where did you get the header panels? The fenders are easy and pretty cheap but the header panel is alot harder.

Anyone ordered from these online only places like www.jeepautobodypartstore.com? The prices are good but I don't get a good feeling about any company who does not have an address or phone number on there website.

www.raybuck.com should give you an idea what things should cost. It´s on the wrong coast, but you can use there prices as a shopping guide.

just do like i did, drive down the road and have some woman pull out in front of you in her nice new toyota celica. her insurance company will take care of everything :D
