Female Antenna Connector

I put a universal stationary antenna on my mom's Oldsmobile that had a power one previously. The problem is the antenna coming off the radio has a male end and the antenna that I bought has a male end also. I suppose I need a connector that is a female on both sides. Anyone know where one can be had?

Autozone or Radioshack. Autozone actually has a variety of radio stuff. And of course if they don't have it in the store, Radioshack can order a lot of stuff.

Yeah I tried Radioshack and the guy said "no we don't carry any car audio stuff here" and recommended I go to a car audio place. I know you can get them at other places. I'll try Autozone thanks a lot.

What you want is a Motorola female to Motorola female antenna connector. Do a Google for Motorola antenna connectors, you should be able to find several different types, and be able to get what you need from combining adapters. OR...you could just cut the on connector off and put a female connector on.

Are there certain wires in that mass that are + and -? It seems like there is one central wire is that like a + and then the group around the outside a - or are they all the same? Thanks guys.

It is a coax cable. Center conductor carries the signal, the conductor that wraps around the outside is the shield/ground.

So what would I do to splice a female end on there? Just clamp it around it?

how about something easier? just suck up some pride and go get a antenna with the proper connector. just a though to save a little hassle.

I have a female antenna connector. But she does alot more than just connect antenna's.

I think there's more to that than I'm picking up on, but I figured I was going to get some of that with the title.:laugh3:

I just went though this whole exact thing, replaced my busted motorized antenna with a cheap aftermarket unit. It has been a headache from day one.

Here is the best bet, and the route I'll be taking as soon as the weather warms up enough for me to work on the Jeep again, Crutchfield has replacement Jeep Cherokee antenna for $10. I tried several different ways of connecting the two coax cables together with the aftermarket and never really got good signal, in fact it came so loose after a few miles that I get none at this point, most connectors won't hold with the vibration of being in a car. I' going to feed the cable from the new antenna into the passenger side kick panel and link up the two coax lines there, so that I can mount the lines to the body where they will be protected and not as vibrated.

I might just get a little crazy with the whole thing though, I hate my head unit and the speakers sound OK with the radio, but the Fleetwood Mac CD sounds like crap. I would like an amp too.....and some sound deadedning in the back....
