So I FINALLY got my front shaft put back in after replacing my worn out shift mode spring in the transfer case. Before installing the shaft I made SURE the tcase was in 2hi by spinning the front yoke by hand. As soon as I backed out of the driveway I thought "NO WAY"... It can't be in 4wd. So I took it for a test drive anyway. I shifted in and out of 4hi in a parking lot. Didn't change anything when I returned to 2hi, still had the same feeling. So in fear of exploding my t-case, I jacked up the front axle to see if the front shaft would spin. Sure enough, it was disengaged from the t-case and really in 2hi.
The feeling is quite strange. Just like you're in 4hi, but it doesn't scrub or bind. The steering wheel just kinda wiggles in your hand while turning. More so when returning to center. After some googling, one guy mentioned a frozen u-joint. Both the driveshaft joints are fine, and I've replaced one of my axle u-joints already. Maybe the other has failed? Anyone have any input or opinions? With the front shaft out, the feeling completely disappears.
