Family Vehicle - opinions needed:)

station wagons are still cool you know and they get great gas mileage :D (outbacks are just cool station wagons btw... no disrespect, i like them.)

We had a '99 Audi A4 Avant (read "wagon" in Audi speak) prior to the T&C. Loved it. 1.8t, 5spd, quattro. I wasn't supposed to mess with the family car, but...chipped it, swapped in 12.5" front discs, added xenon lights. It was a blast. Way more fun to drive than the T&C. (Actually had a friend at work making fun of me for driving a wagon, until I offered her a ride....she was screaming before we got out of the parking lot :sunshine:) AND it was paid off for a year prior to the T&C. BUT, when we picked up the grand parents, they actually had to open the rear doors to do the seat belts....that was w/only one kiddie seat in the middle obviously. That size wagon was good for us and one dog, OR us and one kid, but not both, or more than that. I'd take a quattro wagon anyday.:viking: (it was much better than the Subie I test drove back then)

I DD an 04 MDX which is the same drivetrain and chassis as a Pilot. I get 15 mpg on my stop and go 100% city commute and 19.5 with the cruise set at 78 on the highway. They are reliable as can be, I put 190k on my first MDX with not much more than tires, and scheduled maintenance.

Seems like I remember one of these on an RTI ramp at Crawford's with you running across the campground screaming "NO!" at your brother. ;)

Hi All!

Other than my trusty XJ, we have an 06' 4Runner 4.7 liter V8, 2WD SR5 trim. My wife and i have a son who is just about to turn 1 (4/3/10!), and apparently my wife's biological clock is ticking loudly b/c we are talking about having a 2nd child already. While i think we can fit all of our crap and the kids in the 4Runner pretty easily, i can't say i'm siked that it's only 2WD, and that i still owe 17K$ on it.

That being said, trade in on it is ~17.5K and we have been looking at similar SUV's but with 3rd row seating and the dreaded minivan....

How do you all move your families around? I'm currently looking at used Honda Pilots, Jeep commanders, and the like.

I REALLY like the look of the Commander, but MPG is garbage even for the 6 cylinder, plus it doesn't look like it holds resale for crap, whereas the Honda pilot holds resale, gets about 22MPG and also looks pretty sweet.

I would really like to hear your all's opinion, especially if any of you own a Commander:)

cheers!

I currently have a ford windstar and am looking for a replacement. So far nothing fits my requirements for the wife and anything my wife wants does not fit my budget. Personally I think what you have will work fine. That being said Red has some very good selling points on the F250. Too bad my DD is a F150. Personally I would ike to get her a Fusion or something on the small side. I don't think I could ever buy a Chevy, too many bad stories going around here right now, and Chrysler is never far from going bankrupt. :looney:

We have the Dodge version of the town and country. 2005 Grand caravan SXT

Stow and go seating, rear air, Satellite radio, power doors, cloth seats. Its a GREAT car, and we use the crap out of it.

We have 3 kids all in carseats. We put the two oldest in the very back, and the baby goes in one of the middle seats with the other one folded down. We took three teenage girls along with my wife and I up to rancho cucamonga for a weekend theatre event, and worked perfectly. just big enough for all 5 of us and all our bags.

I sure didn't want him to pull a Ghost and flop of the same RTI ramp.:looser:

That was my '02, I really wanted to be the only person on the planet to swap solid axles and 4 link's in an Acura, but the trade offer was just too good to pass on.

I still say Hemi Commander, its already a classic like the XJ, 2010 is the last year of the XK.

The 3.7 only gets 1-2 more MPG overall than the Hemi.

I did not realize the canned it. Doesn't the new one have that Hemi that shuts down 4 of the cylinders?

Yes, and it works awesome, I get 19-22 at highway speed as long as I keep it under 70mph, then the MDS kicks off and the Hemi is running on 8 gas sucking cylinders. I get 12-13 in town which is not much less than the XJ's get here in the mountains.

They did away with the lifetime power train warranty on all 2010 Jeeps. I'm glad I bought my 09 when i did.

It is the only vehicle besides the XJ that when you sit behind the wheel it just feels "right" and it truley reminds me of a XJ when I drive it, just more plush and cushy. There is a good aftermarket support for them as well with lifts, winch bumpers, power adders and such. The Quadra Drive system has electronic limited slip diffs front and rear. The rear axle is a American Axle & Manufacturing 830 (AAM830) with an Eaton EGerodisc limited slip unit(Quadra-Drive) and is a full-floater unit.

The full time 4wd is the only way to make the HP of the Hemi hook up in all conditions.
