Fabriacting Disco's

Hey i have RE sway bar connects. They are not disco though. I have a pretty good idea on how i want to fab them to be discos. I will just cut them in the middle slide and weld a bigger metal dowel over it and drill two holes for the pins. My question is what are the disadvantages to doing this? Are they louder on road? Do they affect the performace onroad? Any help would be great. Thanks

For whats its worth I think they'd rattle too much... My R.E. discos rattled WAY ! too much.. How about drilling the lower bolt for a hitch pin and a wingnut, shorten the bolt alittle so it will slide on & off easily. Then figure out a way to secure the link & swaybar up out of the way when disconnected.
Just some thoughts.....

The best way to make an easy to hook up quick disconnect is to get 10mm wing nuts for the top.....cost about $1. The rig doesn't have to be perfectly level to hook them up because you don't have to put a pin through, just be able to catch enough of the threads to start the wing nut.

I've been doing this for quite a while, and that's the only way I have ever done sway bar links. You can knock out the bolt on the link axle mount and use a pin to totally remove the links easily. Longer links can be made by cutting a stock link and welding in a piece to make it whatever length you want.

You should be able to add a wing nut to the top of your RE mounts, but I'm not familiar with them. Here's a pic of my current disco links. They are removed easily with a pin on the bottom and a wing nut on the top.
