If I were to buy a 4.0L from a 2002 TJ and strip it down to a long block, and bolt on my 1991 accessories;

1) Would my accessories bolt up
2) Would it be smog legal
3) Would it work overall (I'm concerned about the distributor, etc.)

Thanks!

im not 100% on the head though, have you researched to see if your intake and exhaust manifolds will bolt up to the 02 head?

Jon, that's sort of what I'm doing now. If I used the intake from the 02' and my Borla headers from my 91...?

I know for instance that DC changed the location of the accessories (A/C, PS...) 8,000 times over the years, and don't even get me started on the 10,000 different serpenten belts!

My basic idea like I stated in the first post, if I stripped it all the way down to a bare (on the outside) long block, I think I should be able to do it.

Has anybody out there done this?

I was going to go put it in the mod tech but I'm most concerned with the smog/BAR question. Which as we know only Californians know anything about our smog laws. I'm pretty sure it will be fine, due mainly to the fact that when was the last time a smog tech check an engine block?

So that's why I put it here. I trust my fellow NorCal members to give me the right answer versus someone from ? to guess.
