Eldorado NF - Route Designation Scoping Letter and Project Update Vol. 1, Issue 4

October 25, 2005

Dear Interested Citizen:

The Forest Service is proposing to designate certain roads and trails open
to public off-highway wheeled motor vehicle use, and to assign the type of
use(s) and season of use allowed. Those roads or trails not selected for
designation for public off highway wheeled motor vehicle use will be
closed to public wheeled motor vehicles year round.

The attached newsletter provides a more specific description of the
Purpose and Need and Proposed Action. If you have any questions about
this proposal, or would like more information, please contact Anthony
Scardina at (530) 621-5276.

At this time a decision has not been made regarding this project. If you
have any information you feel the Forest Service may not be aware of, or
if you feel you have issues (points of discussion, dispute or debate)
regarding potential effects of the Proposed Action, please send them in
writing to Anthony Scardina, Route Designation Interdisciplinary Team
Leader, at the Eldorado National Forest Supervisor’s Office, 100 Forni
Road, Placerville, CA 95667, or by email at [email protected]. We will
use any significant issues that are identified to develop alternatives to
the Proposed Action.

Sincerely,

JOHN D. BERRY

Forest Supervisor

Come on guys and gals, lets get those e-mails sent...

The El Dorado National Forest needs to hear from each and every one of us. More than once if you're up for it!

Point out that there has been no effort on the part of the forest service to manage these trails. It's management by closure. Mention that adopt-a-trail programs would work to keep the trails and forest healthy. Mention that the hikers and equestrians are not being shut out of their National Forest, why are we? Point out that if the trails get closed for half the year than the operating budget for the forest should be cut in half.

On the Tahoe side, the county, the forest service and the users worked together to keep the trail healty and open. It would work on the El Dorado side!

Can we get a outline to write our letters off of? I know Crash wrote something not that long ago, can you please post it up and then let's try to crank out some letters/e-mails. Hopefully we can get a unified and clear message and imply that we have the best interest of the forest in mind.
