Dana 44 parts swap

So my buddy told me that a chevy dana 44 can swap into a dana 44 out of a Ford. I want to do a driver side drop, I own a chevy 44, and can pick up a 44 housing out of a Ford for 20 bux. Is what he said true? That would be sweet cuz then i would have a dana 44 out of a Ford for 45 bux.

Basically he is asking if it is possible to swap the internals from a chevy dana 44 into a ford dana 44 housing. That way he could have a drivers side drop 44. However I have no idea as to whether this is possible or not. But i'd assume that it is not.

Gears are different, so are the axle lengths I believe. The outer axles and knuckles, spindles, hubs and brakes can be used. If the ford axle doesnt have the cast radius arm mounts it's well worth it.

It's a pretty vague question. Ford and Chevy both used Dana 44 axles of different lengths. A 78 ford f150 with a dana 44 front axle does not have the same length shafts as a 78 ford f250 with a dana 44 front axle.

I would suggest searching around for shaft lengths and try and find a ford dana 44 with lengths the same as yours. Might not happen, but that would be your next course of action. Warn's website has a few and if you search for Mr. N's Dana 44 axle tech you will find a lot more. Good luck!

By the way, this is probably more of a Modified Tech question than an Advanced one. JMHO.

You can run the chevy knuckles and chevy bolt patern on a ford axle but you will need to run the ford internal shafts with the chevy stubs in the ford housing.
