I need a compression test and cylinder leakdown test. I know I could fork over the bucks and take it to a shop but I would rather find someone on to the forum that knows how to do it and pay them if it means I can watch and learn....

Anybody in the B'ham area up for it?

Hit vortec with a PM...he helped me out with a mechanical oil pressure gauge. He's also a CAOS member. There are quite a few mechanical minds over there too. I've never done a leakdown test. Let me know when you are doing it, and where. If available, I wouldn't mind coming over...moral support...and doughnuts....:shhh:

I will. I actually met him a couple of weeks ago at 4x4RockShop. They were having the shop closing sale...

Yeh, Mike's a buddy. I picked up a few things too! Did vortec pick up that D30 he had out back??

Yep!
I got the last 5 black steelies, a couple of straps, some Warn D-Rings....

Well, I ran across some posts last night about people with misfire problems. They said that a Jeep mech had told them to run injector cleaner directly into the intake and then turn it off and let sit. Once it had time to soak in, go out and do some runs at 3000 RPM's. 3000 is a magic number at which the valves will rattle, breaking up carbon build up blowing it out.

My idle immediately got ridiculously smoother. Still the same after the drive into work - 35 miles of interstate. I hope this was only carbon buildup on the valves....Only time will tell. But I'm going to hold off on the compression test and see how this plays out...
