Coke - better than WD40?

I picked up this little gem off a holistic health website, and thought it may be useful to all of us who curse over stripped threads, ruined clothes etc:

COKE
1.In many states in the USA the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the truck to remove blood from the highway after a car accident.

2.You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke and it will be gone in two days.

3.To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and let the ‘real thing’ sit for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china.

4.To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of kitchen foil dipped in Coca-Cola.

5.To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion.

6.To loosen a rusted bolt: Apply a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes.

7.To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of coke into a load of greasy clothes, add detergent and run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your windscreen.

For your information …

1.The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. Its pH is 2.8. It will dissolve a nail in about 4 days. Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major contributor to the rising increase in osteoporosis.

2.To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate) the commercial truck must use the Hazardous Material place cards reserved for Highly Corrosive Materials.

3.The distributors of Coke have been using it to clean the engines of their trucks for about 20 years!

"The next time you're stopped by a highway patrolman, try asking him if he's ever scrubbed blood stains off a highway with Coca-Cola (or anything else). If you're lucky, by the time he stops laughing he'll have forgotten about the citation he was going to give you."

:laugh3:

an old time diesel mechanic at work here, has used coke as a rust buster/penetrant when there wasnt any PB blaster or the like

apparantely it worked

probably most likely due to the carbination...

I have always used it to clean corroded battery terminals. Works like a charm.

Also have used it to recycle rusted bolts...Remove a rusty bolt, soak overnight it Coke and the next day it will look like new.

It will only work with Coca-Cola, not Pepsi, etc.

No way I would drink the stuff.

and they disproved a bunch of that stuff on Mythbusters

That show is the BOMBS,kid.* I kinda liked the one where they completely debunked the explosive cell phone + gas station combination. That show appeals to my geeky tendencies.

*I really don't talk like that...

FALSE

In a previous life, I used to manage an evil arches (McDonald's). We had two 100gallon tanks of coke syrup in our store. The delivery truck used to hook up a hose and pump the stuff in using compressed CO2.
I don't remember ever seeing a hazardous material card on the trucks.

Pepsi is a good automotive paint remover, least it was back in and around the 60's. Local body shop would spray the car with the stuff at the end of the day and come back in the next morning where it was easy to scrape the stuff off that did not come off after they sprayed it down with a hose and water.

The Coke will be gone? Or the steak will be gone? :laugh3:

You missed one traditional application which even became the subject of a Fugs song back in the 60's: "Coca Cola Douche."

I believe Mythbusters and Cecil Adam's "The Straight Dope" also debunked Coca Cola being used a contraceptive "rinse"...

WOW, lightning trip down memory lane, party after a protest march at drew university, , not very many people ever mention their name as one of the 'classic' 60's groups. I even have a couple of their albums stuck away in a drawer somewhere... :wierd: dirty old man dirty old man...

Not for birth control, it's for this

A man and his wife are driving home one very cold night when the wife asks her husband to stop the car. There was a baby skunk lying at the side of the road, and she got out to see if it was alive. It was, and she said to her husband, "It's nearly frozen to death. Can we take it with us, get it warm, and let it go in the morning?"

He says, "OK, get in the car with it."

"Where shall I put it to get it warm?"

He says, "Put it between your legs. It's nice and warm there."

"But what about the smell?"

He responds, "Just hold it's nose."

The man is expected to recover, but the skunk she used to beat him with died at the scene.

EVERYTHING on snopes is a baseless lie.

everything

. . . but Mythbusters rocks!
what a way to make a living.
