Coil spacer question

I have a set of coil spacers I need to get in. I've already changed the springs before so that's not a problem. What I don't know is exactly how the spacers themselves fit in etc.
Do they just fit over the bumpstops and put the springs in? or what?
Could someone please explain how I do this? Want to do it right the first time and searching didn't bring up anything.

take the spring down, slide the spacer over bumpstop, install spring, done.
