Coaxial to component/HDMI

What's the best way to convert from a Coaxial cable to component cable/HDMI?

I have an HD antenna for my TV which is giving me awesome picture but I don't want to screw and unscrew the antenna every time I want to switch between my HD antenna and the basic cable we get (I only have one coax in).

find something with an analog tuner to use with your cable. old vcr or something.

you can't just convert it to HDMI, you need something to tune to the different frequencies to change channels. Easier to find an analog tuner to use with your cable provider than it is to find a digital tuner box that has HDMI or component out. I'm assuming you don't want to lose the HD picture quality of the OTA signal.

That's bs. Oh well, get a coax splitter. I use parts express to order all this kinda stuff online.

Yeah. At least the antenna works freaking awesome.

How much degradation will I be looking at with a splitter?

edit: you don't mean a 2 to 1 splitter?

Your hd antenna doesn't have hdmi or component out? They usually do.
why would an antenna have an hdmi out? an HD tuner might, but that's not an atenna.

you'll need something to switch between the antenna and cable, like a vcr or a/b switch.

I would go the A/B switch route over the splitter. Using the splitter can cause issues. Now whether or not it would effect anything is going to be dependent on whether or not the cable plant uses a frequency used by your local OTA stations. Using a splitter will also cause your antenna to transmit the cable signals out OTA. However more than likely the range wouldn't be very far.
