clunk after lift.

just put a re 3.5" superflex kit on my 01. when i'm already moving at a decent speed (i guess 15 mph+) and i push the gas i hear one clunk, and also when i let off the gas going at those speeds i also hear a clunk. i can also feel it. i can't tell if its front or rear though. my dad thinks it might be a ujoint. i have a tcase drop in the mail, so i'm hoping that will cure the problem...any idea what this is? thanks.

nope no blocks. i dont think its the ubolts because i hear the clunk even if i simply tap the gas pedal.

it's the u joints on your drive shaft.
I've chewed up about 3 of them until I put on some blocks.
what you're explaining is exactly what was happening.
go under your jeep and put it in neutral, with the parking brake on...
and shake the driveshaft.

T-case drop might fix it. Track bar will clunk if loose so will control arms, cross members and tranny mounts if loose or bushings are worn.

Look at the ears on the Slip yoke. I'd be willing to bet there are some shiny spots where the DR ears are contacting the yoke ears as the DS spins.

You can't put that much lift on and not expect to have driveline angle issues. You can try running about 3* of shim on the rear axle to point the pinion up to help ease the angle on the DS. A TC drop will also help esae these issues, start saving up for a SYE. One for your year is only about $90 from RE, a $60 adapter, and a stock XJ front DS and you will be able to remove the TC drop. This will correct the angles and allow you to remove the TC drop and gain back the 1" of clearence you lost when you had the TC drop on.

$90 bucks for a SYE. Send me one for that price... Check your driveshaft, not just the rotation circular, but bounce it around.. Check your shock mounts and all parts that you changed. If you did not have this before you lifted more than likely you forgot to torque something. The driveline prob wont make the clunking noises that you are describing, it will cause viborations when you drive.

You can also remove the front DS and take it for a test. That would eliminate the front DS u-joints and angles.

well i need the tcase drop anyways. my driveline angles arent too awesome, so maybe reducing the strain on the driveshaft will cure this problem as well. we'll see.

it still makes the one clunk when i push the gas, but after i let go it makes a grumbling/clunking/growling noise for a few seconds, instead of just one clunk. still sound like ujoints are going out?

also where do i get the flange adapter??

i just put a 4.5 lift on mine, on the test drive had a clunk and put her up on jack stands all wheels off the ground. let her spin in drive and found out it was the driveshaft knuckles hitting check that, we installed the transfer case drop and no more clunk. cept i forgot to tighten the track bar bolt and now i need a bolt and nut to reconnect

my thoughts would be either u-joint or loose control arm, though a control arm usually won't knock around unless you hit the brakes... instead of accelarating.
