centering bolt when redoing the rear leafs (XJ)

hi guys,

i was wondering in what way the centering bolt of a leaf pack is different from a standard machine bolt + nut?

i want to fix my sagging springs tomorrow. i have a used but fairly new pack from the scrap jard. i can get the u-bolts but can't seem to get the centering pins - can i use a bolt & nut with the right size? doesn't the bolt just hold the springs together until the u-bolts carry all the load when claped to the axle?

cheers,
michael

I use grade 8 fine thread bolts and just grind the hex-head down to round so it will fit in the perch. I bent several centering bolts before going to that method and haven't bent any since.

x2 on the grade 8's it also makes it easy to pick up spares

thank you all very much, guys. as always, your knowledge saves me hours and hours of fiddeling around.

i'd buy you all a beer if i could,

cheers,
michael
