catback exhaust kit for 2000 XJ

I’m looking for a catback exhaust kit for my 2000 Cherokee. Here are the ones that I found so far. Any input?

1. Dynomax $209.00 (Aluminized)
2. Gipson $422.00 (Stainless)
3. Thrush $53 for OE style pipe and choose muffler $100 (aluminum)
4. Magnaflow $436.00 (Stainless)
5. Borla $435.00 (Stainless)

I'd skip on the stainless and spend the money you save on high temp coatings. I put on my cherokee the dynomax super turbo 2.5inch and a magnaflow cat 2.5inch regular galvanized and the jeep sounds amazing the stainless is nice but slightly overated. On ebay you can find all the parts and buy the coatings in a spray can and replace everything from the downpipe back for an amazing sound and great performance.

I had Dynomax in my last rig and it was real quiet there for a while and after a few months it started to sound really good. You can find that Cat back at www.summitracing.com for like 120 bucks, Where is that price from?

This is topic that comes up repeatedly- search a bit. Nothing new under the sun.

I tried searching, and I found bits and pieces, most topics started off as an exhaust topic and within a few posts it got off topic.

Thanks roosteroby, I haven't heard of the high temp. coating that you speak of. Do you have any links to buy the product that you are recommending?

Thanks for the information. Is the Dynomax fairly quiet in the cab? The price above was quoted from: http://www.quadratec.com/categories/jeep_exhaust/default_cherokee.php

Looks like Summit (as usual) offers the best pricing.

Yeah its real quiet. If you are running MT's you won't notice it at all. It has a nice tone at Idle and sounds pretty good around 3k RPM's. Its not overly loud like a flowmaster. Quadratec is kinda high on a lot of things but 209 thats ridiculous!

The high temp coatings you could get at autozone or similar supplier. The line of POR 15 coatings can be found on quadratec's web site different colors for different temps. I searched ebay for my exhaust parts and got them pretty cheap some with no shipping charges.

I do know that most POR-15 products are considered to be excellent. I’m assuming that one advantage of the coating (besides cosmetics) would be to reduce the chances of starting a fire by exposed hot exhaust pipe coming in contact with tall grass/weeds/etc. I’m assuming the coating acts as an insulator.

That's good to know, I don't need or want anything too loud.

jegs.. 50$ MIR on dynomax cat-back exhaust

Or, for less than the cost of those other kits.. go to a good local exhaust shop that has a mandrel bender and have a custom exhaust made. At this time you can have them install a flex pipe in front of the cat to help do less damage to your system. If you go this route, I recommend an Aero Turbine muffler or a magnaflow/bullet performance muffler, or a dynomax ultraflo muffler.

I like the Aero Turbine, but they are out of business. I have one on my Dodge Cummins.

those are all great if you want to loose all low end tourque and be obnoixiosly loud
How do you figure? Especially with a cat there is plenty of back pressure. And they come in different lengths so sound can vary. And they sound better than chambered mufflers and flowmasters are overrated.
