Cash in a birthday card, or money order

Think about this:

If you send someone cash in a card, they can claim that it was a gift...after all it was in a card.

Money orders cannot have a "stop payment" put on them or be cancelled, they are just like cash. They only difference is only the person they are made out to can cash them.

Personnaly...I would never deal with a vendor, or anyone, that suggested these 2 forms of payment.

Just a friendly FYI

I demand only cash, from Grandma when she sends the Birthday cards.

No, you can cancel MOs. It just depends on the issuer.

I try to avoid doing business with anyone whose name isn't red, particularly if they've only been around for 15 minutes.

I will typically deal with money orders - but I get them from the US Postal People, which allows me to report them as "lost" if that should happen, and allows me to "stop payment" on them if I feel something is a little amiss (although if I get that feeling, I don't usually send out any cash anyhow.)

The advantage to money orders is that they're already paid for, and are no trouble at all for the other party to handle. Plus, you don't have a cheque floating around out there until they "get around to putting it in the bank" - I've had that happen for months at a time! Kind of annoying, really.

Also, there's a steady stream of comms between us when there's money involved - negotiation, notification of payment, notification of shipment, notification of receipt of shipment - not the most efficient way to handle things, but at least they know that I know what's going on.

Cash? Only in a "face-to-face" transaction will I take cash. And then, I'll only take it if I can hand you, in return, whatever you're paying for.

Just so you know, Works in Progress deals (for now...) with payment in either postal money order or PayPal (which also allows me to take credit cards for a nominal fee - less than I'd be charged by the bank!) and that also means that I don't have to wait for cheques to clear. Which means I don't have to sit on the order for another week to make sure it goes through. Which means you get YOUR stuff faster that way as well!

You can't put a stop payment on food stamps; at least that's what the lady at the counter told me. I guess I'm out 114 bagels, 27 1/2 pickles, 10 drumsticks, 8 apples, two froszen orange juices and Twinkie!

that blows, a twinkie sounds so good right now.

A thrall (Thræl for men, Thír for women) was a slave in Scandinavian culture during the Viking Age. Slavery was one of the primary sources of income for the Vikings. The first person to describe thralls was the Roman historian Tacitus, who wrote in AD 98 that the Swedes (Suiones) had no right to carry arms, but that the weapons were locked inside and protected by a slave only to be distributed when they were attacked by enemies.

The system of slavery was supported by Norse mythology, which claimed that the thralls had a separate ancestry through Ríg.

A person could become a thrall by giving himself up because of starvation. This was considered to be the most shameful way of entering slavery and the first method of acquiring slaves to be forbidden. The most common way of acquiring thralls was to capture prisoners in foreign countries or by buying such captured foreigners.

The thralls were kept as livestock and their master had the right of their life and death. One who was born of a female thrall by a free father was considered to be a thrall, whereas those who were born by a free woman having a thrall father were considered to be free. Some thralls had higher status than others and were called Brytes.

When Christianity arrived in Northern Europe, there was increasing demand for non-Christian slaves, and the Scandinavians had a de facto monopoly on trading in them since Christians were not allowed to trade in slaves.

As Scandinavia was christianized, slavery became unfashionable and, since the owners were obliged to support aged thralls, the system was transformed into serfdom.

Actually there is a lot of people who prefer to do money order over say a credit card payment or a check over the phone. Mostly for a couple of different reasons in which im sure most of you can imagine. I personally would never send a money order into any type of business, whether its a mail order company or a bill that i have to pay.

If the place of business you are dealing w/ has the option of Western Union quick collect, i would do that over cash or money order.

Just my .2 cents on my experience in the mail order industry.

I've done money orders a few times, never had a problem. I always use USPS money orders, not sure if that makes a difference in the backup that I have but whatever...

I won't do an MO with eBay or some random person who I don't trust on the boards.

Cash.. Never unless I see the part in front of me.

Some idiot in NY, won't deal with that scammer at all. Gentlemen, the orders are kill on site, good hunting.
