It's hard to get people to realize that gun laws are bad when people are getting attacked outside their window. They think "Oh, this law against big bad guns will only affect the bad guys."
Funny thing about DC - The cop cars there actually have red and blues flashing at all times to deter crime, DC is a bit of a shithole although it's getting better (they're pushing all the poor people out to Baltimore and Price George's county).
As for the gun laws there most of the blame is on the locals, the national politicians there don't really notice anything local! At least Heller went our way

(Holly's two sisters live in DC Metro and Holly lived there prior to moving to Los Angeles, so I've spent a good amount of time there.)
