Anyone know some good camping spots with in an hour or so of Baltimore? My brother went to go "camp" this weekend in Pequea,Pa,near lancaster, calls to say they have A/C, and CABLE!!! This isn't camping, and when they went to cut firewood for the big ass fuel drum that is provided for a firepit, they about got tossed out for using a chainsaw to cut wood that THWY BROUGHT...they said "hey, no chain saws, your supposed otbe camping ,back to basics" yeah,,umm while they were wtaching the Winston Cup race on cable last night?? lol
Anywayz, I am looking for somewhere that doesnt have all those "amenities" and if ya have to travel a few fireroads to get there, even better...

You might want to check out Catoctin Mountain Park or Cunningham Falls State Park. They are adjacent to one another, just outside Thurmont, MD, probably about an hour from Baltimore. Catoctin is a part of the National Park Service and has some nice sites. Sections of the Catoctin Park are regularly closed though, because it also includes Camp David, and they close it off when Bush is there. The areas at Cunningham Falls remain open though. Do a web search and you shold be able to find deatils at the NPS website.

hey matt i live a few miles from Gifford Pinchot state park here in lewisberry.. i know a lot of my friends go camping there but to be honest besides some school field trips i've never really been there.. that would be up I-83 to newberrytown exit 32, left down space highway for like 5 miles, left at the only light in lewisberry, and down there about 5-10 miles.. so its not too far from you i guess..

i've been told that from time to time they left you drive around through the woods and there might even be some trails but not that i've ventured over there or anything. Maybe not during hunting season though..
