cam timing

Alright, no more than an hour ago i finished the tearing down of the motor. now when i start putting it back together I keep wondering about the cam timing. I mean how do i know the correct position of it?

There should be a single mark on the cam sprocket and the crank gear, they should be pointing directly at each other. Good Luck! later

Rotate the cam and the crank so that the dots are as close together as possible then add the chain.
 
This pic will help you. As Funkytee5 said, the timing marks or dots on the cam and crank sprockets should be directly facing each other.
