Calling Phil weeks!

hey Phil, I'm not sure of your time frame, but I think I'm going to go with full-widths, meaning my Toyota 8" that is already all setup for SOA MJ would be available. thing is I won't do it or have it back in CA until May. so maybe if you want to just wheel a D35 until then... speaking of which I think I have some D35 shafts still lying around at home in CA that I could bring in November.

going fullwidth already? Didn't you just get that all together like a month or two ago now? Edit: That's a six lug anyway, which brings me back to dealing with the different lugs one way or another.

I really want to get rid of that 35, but how much wheeling am I even going to get to do before next summer anyway, right? I'll have to see how everything works out in the next couple weeks, between three 8.25s and a 9" now.

I don't see why its such a good deal?

28 spline, small bearing (no easy upgrade to 31 splines) 33 years old and you need to find drums for it.

Yes its a 9 in but you could get a complete one with 31 spline for not a whole lot more.

Better call a tow truck.....It's the same setup I have With 31 spline Mosers of course :D

About the only thing of value on that is the housing, and that's questionable because of the small bearing ends. You will likely need to regear and locker the third member and overhaul it. Plus 28 spline axles are marginally stronger than the 27 spline D35.

More and more late 80s XJ's and MJs are finding the boneyard, you'll find something more appropriate.

Here's the costs on building my 9"
Strange 3.25" third member and pinion support-$300
Gears 5.43- $175
Setup/rebuild kit-$175ish
Detroit-$460ish
Dutchman shafts-$360
housing-free
14B ends-$150 (including spare worthless-to-me 14B shafts)
brake pads/calipers/rotors for 3/4 ton Chevy K20 front-$160
Weld on caliper brackets-$25
SS braided brake lines-$100
Summit weld on truss-$60
1310 yoke-$35

Setup 75.00 (Greg)
Setup/rebuild kit 70.00

SS braided brake lines included with lift kit
Spicer 1310 yoke 45.00
It all depends how you want to build it.
I'm all for recycling to save mother earth (I'm a cheap @ss:D )

Too bad that 1310 yoke didn't make it on there before our Rubicon trip. :D

CRASH

PnP for $160 the width will be a bit more though. I don't know my 9s very well but full size trucks and perhaps full size broncos.

Save up for an 8.8 unless you want really big tires then go 14 bolt.

Your original idea for a 29 spline 8.25 would probably be good for 35s. and have good clearance.

SeanPs is an example of an extremely well built 9. Its basically as strong as a 14 bolt just a lot lighter, and with better ground clearance.
